Classic Sierra games re-released

Target/Amazon.com are re-releasing compilations of Space Quest, Police Quest, and King’s Quest at the end of March. One question, where is the Quest for Glory compilation? All these games rock, but Quest for Glory was pure pixelated perfection.

If you conquered the 5 offical games in the QFG series, you must try Quest for Glory 4 1/2: So you thought you were a hero? (Warning: This game is R rated) It’s crude, rude, and offensive but it flawlessly captures the essence of the QFG series.

Zelda Classic

Not sure if this is totally legal but it’s very sweet:

A Legend of Zelda clone for windows and DOS, complete with quest editor.

Now, instead of being merely a Legend of Zelda Clone, Zelda Classic has become so much more. With ZQuest, Zelda Classic’s Quest Creator, anyone can make their very own quest from scratch, and now, with all of the features that have been added in the past years, the possibilities are virtually endless for the style of quest you can make. If you can imagine it, you can create it (provided it’s in 8-bit color). Quests have grown larger and longer, into seemingly epic games, that can take days, if not weeks to complete. With ZQuest, you can create your own original graphics, or import them from any game you like.

I’ve been reading Masters of Doom by David Kushner. It’s the true story of how John Carmack and John Romero created Doom and the rise of Id software. It explains where Commander Keen, Wolfenstein 3D, Doom and Quake got their roots. Awesome book.

This book got me thinking about all the games that I played years ago on my screaming 386. Great classics like, Quest for Glory, Space Quest, Police Quest, King’s Quest, and many others. Amazingly enough, you can download these classic games and more at abandonia.com.
