Guild Wars comes in at number 7 on GigaOM Top 10 Most Popular MMOs. They state that Guild Wars has 2 million active users, although I don’t think that is an official number from ArenaNet.

Guild Wars will be turning two on Saturday:

Saturday is a dual birthday for Guild Wars: It is the second birthday of Prophecies and the first birthday of Factions. This Friday we are kicking off a weekend of celebration, with fun activities for all, a special event item, and the unveiling of the 2nd birthday gift for those characters turning two on April 28th. Catch the details on the events page and enjoy all the fun starting at Noon Pacific on Friday, April 27th and running through 11:59 PM Pacific on Sunday, April 29th.

Yesterday’s weekend event announcement eluded to the fact that we will be able to play hard mode this weekend:

Double Sunspear & Lightbringer Points 17 April 2007
This weekend you will receive double Sunspear and Lightbringer points in both Hard mode and regular gameplay. Check in with the appropriate resurrection shrine NPC to obtain the bounty, and double up on the rewards from Noon Pacific on Friday, April 20, through 11:59 PM Pacific on Sunday, April 22.

Here is what we know about hard mode so far:

* You must have completed the campaign with at least one character on the account in order to access Hard mode.
* Once you have done that, any other character on the account that is Level 20 (ascension is not required) will also be able to access Hard mode.
* The very best Guild Wars players should be able to take on Hard mode with Heroes and Henchmen. We do not guarantee success, but it is doable.
* Henchmen in HM have been buffed to have better armour, items, and their Elites.
